Coding in our Schools
During the month of December, students at South, West and Central schools are participating in Hour of Code experiences in conjunction with Computer Science Education Week. These annual programs encourage us to inspire K-12 students to take an interest in computer science and link to 21st century skills for our future. The basics of coding help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills, and challenge our students to persevere. We are thrilled that all students in District 35 are participating in this global computer science initiative that creates a creative environment for students to be introduced to the concepts of computer programming. Hour of Code also provides our students opportunities to learn:
- Math concepts such as variables and conditions
- Logic such as sequencing as well as cause and effect
- Techniques for problem solving
- Project design
- Benefits of collaboration
- Ability to take constructive criticism and identify and fix errors
