Glencoe Public Safety - Training in our Schools

While school is not in session, the Glencoe Public Safety Department will be conducting Rapid Deployment Training at Central School from 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm on Friday, August 12th and Monday, August 15th. Staff and residents should not be concerned if you observe a large police presence at the school during these times. We thank Glencoe Public Safety for their ongoing partnership. This training is a critical component of our cooperative planning to support a safe school environment.

The Rainbow Cone Ice Cream Truck

The Rainbow Cone Ice Cream Truck will be stopping by the Glencoe Farmer’s Market on Thursday, August 25th from 1:00-5:00pm. Stop on by and buy a sweet treat to celebrate the first day of the 2022-2023 school year!

Seeking Career Awareness Volunteers…

In connection with our Strategic Priority of Advancing Learning & Innovation, District 35 seeks support from our parents and community members to share expertise with our students. As we plan Career Awareness opportunities for our 8th grade students, we seek to educate our students on a variety of career pathways and build connections with community experts.

If you would be interested in sharing your expertise, please complete our INTEREST FORM by August 10th. Thank you in advance for sharing with the youth of our community!

988: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

“When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.” - 988lifeline.org

Safety and Security in our Schools

It has been over a week since the tragic events in Highland Park, and our hearts are with the community and all those impacted by this senseless violence. Many of our District 35 families and staff were present at the parade that day, and we offer support to them (and to anyone) to process the grief and trauma resulting from that day. The Village and District can provide resources to any person or family who is struggling with the aftermath of this tragedy. Please reach out if you or a loved one needs help.

We recognize safety and security are top of mind for District 35 families as a result of the Highland Park tragedy, as well as similar events across our nation.  Consistently over the past decade, the District, in partnership with the Village and Glencoe Public Safety,  has taken many proactive steps to address safety and security in our schools. District 35 has an unwavering commitment to ensuring our schools remain safe spaces for learning and teaching. Click here to read the full letter to our families sent July 15, 2022.

In partnership with Glencoe Public Safety, we also share these important reminders for safe gun storage.  If you have questions about firearm safety and security, please contact the Public Safety Department at 847-835-4112 to speak with an officer.

Welcome Mrs. Betty Weir!

We are pleased to announce the Board of Education has approved the appointment of Mrs. Betty Weir as the district’s Director of Professional Learning.

Betty joins us from The Winnetka Public Schools where she has most recently served as the Principal of The Skokie School. She brings with her a familiarity with our local area and a passion for collaborative learning opportunities. Colleagues describe Betty as viewing education as a life-long pursuit and she inspires those around her to grow and strive for continuous improvement. Mrs. Weir will assume her new role on our administrative team on July 1st and we look forward to her contributions as we address our strategic priorities across the District 35 schools.

2022-23 Bus Registration

If you are interested in registering for bus transportation for the 2022-2023 school year, please click here for registration and payment details. To register and pay online for bus service for next year, please visit our Family Access site.

Please register by July 6, 2022, to avoid a $50 late fee.  To/from Park District ONLY registrations received after August 10, 2022, will be processed as quickly as possible with no guarantee of ridership start date.

If you require further information on the busing program, contact Mrs. Gayle Stone in the Glencoe School District Business Office at 847-835-7800.

COVID Health Protocols

Please continue to support us as you monitor your child daily for symptoms. If your child has symptoms, please keep them home and complete a COVID test to return to school. Effective March 22nd, due to the LOW COVID-19 Community levels and updated IDPH guidance, we are approved to use antigen or PCR tests (including HOME tests) to clear a symptomatic individual to return to school. Antigen tests are available in our school nurse offices should a child or staff member exhibit symptoms during the school day. We can accept a PCR test (including a rapid PCR) or an Antigen test. If using a home test, please provide an image of the test result including the date and name of the individual tested to your school nurse.

Updates in District 35

Effective Monday, February 28, 2022: District 35 schools will be a mask optional environment for all, aligned with the CDC guidance. District 35 buses and school transportation will now also be a mask optional environment.

We thank our parents and staff for the care, patience, and partnership you have shown throughout all phases of this pandemic. We ask for your ongoing partnership to ensure that our schools remain welcoming and safe environments for all students to learn and thrive regardless of personal masking decisions. As we navigate this next phase, District 35 will lead with respect and empathy.

Safe Routes to Schools

We are excited to see so many students biking or walking to school again. Please view the Safe Routes to Schools information here to be aware of crossing guard locations, stop signs, and recommended routes for our students. Please also be mindful of the helmet law in Glencoe - all children under the age of 16 must wear a helmet while on a bicycle, scooter, or skateboard. Thank you for your support of this critical safety measure.
